From the Director
How often, in righteous indignation, have you judged another? How often, with even more violence, have you judged yourself?
In the span of 20-minutes, Sarah Vander Schaaff, beautifully and simply crafts the struggles of two, young, ‘have-enough’s.’ They aren’t going hungry, they aren’t discriminated against (aside from an occasional snooty customer). In fact, from the outside eye they each have it pretty good. And herein lies the very recognizable, very lonely, American struggle to—regardless of access and bounty—always feel that what we are or what we are doing is not enough.
In our ‘expert’ culture, we look for quick fixes and sage wisdom to ‘fix’ us. And as we search outside ourselves we gift away our agency to shape the landscape around us that is changing so very, very quickly.
Whether you’re afraid you know nothing…or are sure you know everything…Sustain Me will open you up just a little to make space for a new possibility in your life. It reminds us, gently and with great humor, that sometimes falling is part of the journey.
